Pietro Bologna
Pino Deodato
Glimmers, Angels and other stories
“Corrispondenze. Barlumi, Angeli e alter storie” (Correspondences. Glimmers, Angels and other stories), the third exhibition in the summer program of the Susanna Orlando Gallery, opens on Saturday the 6th of July in Pietrasanta, on the occasion of Collectors Night. It is a site-specific work created and curated by Pietro Bologna and Pino Deodato in Via Garibaldi 30, a project born from a dialogue that merges photography, sculpture and painting.
On display are creations in polychrome terracotta with engobe by Pino Deodato – including “Angeli”, “Deposizione” and “Porto Salvo”, a unique display of photographic works by Pietro Bologna entitled “Barlumi”, and to crown it all, four handed works of painting and gum print, and a site-specific pictorial intervention by Deodato, traditionally excuted on the walls of the gallery, conjoining the two paths and generating a unicum.
It is not just a project, but a “declaration of love” that arises from the materialization of a dialogue, an exchange that transcends the project itself, implying a common feeling, an intimate complicity, a sublime correspondence. From this, a “dreamlike journey” takes shape between “fragments of thought”: stories in which the humanity of one moves in the open space of the other, which in turn becomes the setting for a story, thus giving life to a new story. And so on in almost infinite combinations.
The key to accessing this world made of nature and poetry is “synthesis”, understood as a viaticum towards the absolute. Proceeding by subtraction or cancellation, in a dowsing research, in order to convey a universal and inclusive message, a “gentle revolution”, an invitation to take care of the work that preserves “the essence of things”: nature.
The result is a poetic novel whose narration eschews any linearity to proceed through sudden flashes, glimmers and suffused epiphanies; free frames in which color becomes an empathic and semantic instrument; an open musical score, which far from leading to an indisputable truth, insinuates reflections and questions about nature and humanity as part of it.
An osmosis that redesigns the gallery as an alchemical garden, a place where the spirit moves in a contemplative dance, between “glimmers, angels and other stories”. Works, objects, ‘things’ endowed with soul and life.

PINO DEODATO Born in Nao, Vibo Valentia, in 1950. Since the 1990s, Deodato’s artistic expression has been characterized by a magical realism that, finding inspiration in the folds of his memory, gives rise to true metaphors of life. This path continues in the new millennium: Deodato, humanist and alchemist of the image, always in transit between sculpture and painting, continues to narrate the history of man with a stern and gentle, acute and poetic gaze, open to the marvelous and the fantastic. He has exhibited in Italy and abroad in galleries and museum spaces, between Milan, Rome, Turin, Pietrasanta and Kuwait City.
PIETRO BOLOGNA Born in Milan in May 1972, Pietro Bologna is self-taught. In the early 1990s he moved to Germany and then to Argentina, working as a model maker, assistant photographer, photojournalist and darkroom teacher. Today he combines his artistic research with his profession as a designer.
His first solo exhibition dates back to 1998 at the Centro Cultural J.L. Borges in Buenos Aires. In the following years he has exhibited in Italy and abroad in public and private spaces.
